PTE Speaking is not as easy as IELTS Speaking. One should keep in mind that in case of PTE, the scoring is done through a completely automated, computerized process.
There are five distinct Item Types in PTE Speaking Test:
- Read Aloud
- Repeat Sentence
- Describe Image
- Retell Lecture
- Answer Short Questions
Test taker’s audio input is scored on the basis of
- Oral Fluency
As we can notice here, a higher score can be obtained by working on improving our Pronunciation and Oral Fluency. Coming to Pronunciation, the PTE Computer Algorithm assigns maximum scores to native-like pronunciation. This means that the speaker is expected to pronounce words in a manner that is easily understood by those who speak English as their native language.
HOW CAN I IMPROVE?
Yes, that’s the question! Mimicry is what certainly works here. Try to listen to as many real-life native conversations as possible. Try to repeat exact sentences and compare your speech with that of the native speakers. There are some good software and websites that are very helpful for this comparison.
